Alex Webb: "I first thought that it was an opossum, but when I stepped out of the car and examined the carcass lying in the middle of the road ...."

While he does capture the sadness that is youngstown (I'm from there, and everytime I go back I feel like crying), I think he really missed out on the hedgehog/groundhog/whistlepig possibilities.. thus I humbly submit: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2007986&l=b7044&id=1268904021
it's a groundhog, aka 'whitsle pig.'
What happened with magnum which is visually stunning? These look like snapshots, please go back to film!!!
Great serie of photos, love it!!!!!
I'm sorry you didn't see some of the beautiful things that I get the opportunity to shoot daily as a multimedia reporter at Youngstown's newspaper. I agree with Jamie - there's a lot more than these pictures indicate. No shots of my friends and I are the martini bar, no shots of our thriving arts community, no pictures of Mill Creek Park - one of the most beautiful in the country, no shots of some of our gorgeous historic neighborhoods (where a vacant home is a rarity.) We're a very diverse town. I'm not denying there's scenes that convey despair, but for the most part, we're a town of working people that don't -see- a future, but live in that future. Next time you're in town, feel free to contact me to see the brighter side of Youngstown.
Youngstown is far lovelier than what this "feature" leads the world to believe. Photographer Alex Webb seems to omit all the hope this city has already regained and invested in the area, despite its ghostly past. Not all of Youngstown has been waiting around for polished politicians to fix its future. We're wiser than that, though not too proud to join hands with sincere optimists. Outsiders can continue to be convinced that Youngstowners wake up every day haunted by steel mills gone bad, just clinging to hope hand-outs and squinting to see a far-off better future. But those who live and work here will always see the bigger and clearer picture. Thank God!
