Alec Soth finds voters actually swaying.

Salsa dance class, University of Kentucky, 2008.

While visiting the University of Kentucky today, I stumbled upon a salsa dance class in the school’s student center. I was surprised by the diversity of the group. I met students from Guyana, India, Sri Lanka and Nigeria. Only a couple of the participants were native to Kentucky.

I didn’t want to spoil the celebratory mood with politics, so all I asked was who each person was supporting in the election. My survey found that 100% of salsa dancers in Lexington are voting for Barack Obama. Perhaps if the Obama campaign can bring salsa to rural Kentucky, he’ll steal another eight electoral votes from the Republicans.
