Pictures From A Vanished Country
Thomas Hoepker
"Earlier this year I realized we would celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. I went back into my archive and discovered that I had boxes full of negatives that I had never seen before, taken in East Germany over the past 50 years It was a treasure which had to be unearthed."
Thanks for providing us the photos, the presentation of the images was also great, it was indeed a treasure. This is perfect for people who are taking research on the history of Berlin.

“We wanna be free! We wanna be free to do what we wanna do. We wanna be free to ride. We wanna be free to ride our machines without being hassled by The Man!… And we wanna get loaded. And we wanna have a good time. And that’s what we are gonna do.”

I can understand the nostalgia that the East Germans feel, they must remember it as a time when they were all in it together. Pointed photos but with that gentle Hoepker touch.

Not being a German citizen, I never imagined the circumstances in which the 'normal'
German people lived in. I agree with Nick Goldblatt, it seems that Honecker dwelled in
luxury while the folk lived in poverty and believed everything they were told. Thank
God that this part of history has finished

It doesn't surprise me that the DDR had a National Socialist look to it. I think many Communists have admired the pomp and circumstance that the Nazis could create. Stalin did and it seems that Honecker did too.
