The picture were amazing has alot of details, emotions. Shows real people with real issues, the essay goes well with the pictures.
Gilden's work has an amazing timeless quality. Tri-X looks so good with a big flash.
Bruce, the houses you photograph are not foreclosed homes, but the rubble of abandoned homes. There is a distinct difference and your photo essay puzzled me. Nice portraits, though! I am a native Detroiter, an East-sider born on Alter Road, just two blocks south of Jeffereson Ave. You took some good portraits for this essay and I appreciate your photography--I have several of your books--but I have to say: nobody covers Detroit better that documentary photographer George Waldman. I mean: nobody. George remains the king. Check out his website.
Briiliant essays from America and great to see this work from the other side of the world. To Ameriacans they may tire of seeing this work and see the same old same old. Its inspiring, thought provoking work, with sharp startling rich imagary. Appreciate it for what it is 'Jayson' its part of what is happening where you live. I want to see some reality at times and we may not always see what we want. Here in London we see Obama meeting various people around the world, his inauguration etc, and pop stars. This is the FIRST we've seen of Detriot-WE DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS HAPPENING. Documentary films/photograph are reality. I dont see people being exploited. You are fantastic Bruce, thank you. Di
same old muddy black and white photos. I've seen Bruce Gilden on the street and I can tell you that he has no respect for people. He sees only the uglyness in people and he i out to exploit them. Both of his foreclosure shoots show very little of his "concern" for the people whose lives are so destroyed. He is a sensationalist and an exploiter. He probably only selected the most scandalous voices. This is not strong work.. its boring work made sensational by the voices.
Bruce is getting older and colser, in all ways! Detroit's been flashed and captured!
This audio slideshow is straight out of the bible. It speaks with the zeal of a prophet. Its raw. Damn Bruce Gilden there is electricity and power in your photographs. Nothing has come close to capturing the anger and the loss and the confusion and the betrayal and the despair. Awesome. People, this is a new standard.
A very weak piece.I have met this very nasty person on the street in New york,he likes to use the "N" word a LOT!!!!....Same old boring photos. Can you do anything else?Same photo over and over again..An embarrassment to Magnum.
