The Magnum Foundation

We are looking for qualified interns to work at The Magnum Foundation. Magnum Photos was founded in 1948 as a cooperative photography agency, now composed of 50 of the world’s most renowned documentary photographers working today. Launched in 2009, The Magnum Foundation was created as a non-profit organization with three principle program areas: The Emergency Fund, to support in-depth documentary projects; BE SEEN, to partner with non-profits on visual campaigns; and Legacy, to preserve the archives of independent photographers. The internship will allow students to get hands-on experience with the inner-workings of the Foundation.

Interns will actively engage in the operations of all three Magnum Foundation programs. Responsibilities may include drafting copy for the website; managing assets from photographers; updating the database; assisting with grant-writing; researching funding opportunities; monitoring news coverage; and managing social media (Twitter, Facebook). Applicants should have excellent writing and communication skills, and be comfortable with Macintosh computers and Adobe CS, FileMaker Pro, Word, and Excel.

An interest in documentary photography, photojournalism, and human rights is encouraged, but more importantly we are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic, eager to contribute, and willing to work in a fast-paced environment. It is crucial that interns be able to take responsibility and prioritize their work.

We will consider interns who can devote two or more days a week, starting immediately. References are required, and a firm commitment to theinternship is expected. The internship is unpaid, but students may receive academic credit.
